Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - Detectives are continuing their efforts to locate a known domestic violence suspect who repeatedly terrorized his victim early Sunday morning, police said.
The suspect, who has not been publicly identified, is being sought on suspicion of felony domestic violence charges and weapons charges. Officers were called just before 3:30 a.m. Sunday, October 29 to the 1300 block of Palomares Avenue on a domestic violence call. Police learned that the suspect forced his way into the victim’s home without consent, caused injury to the victim, stole the victim’s cell phone, vehicle and escaped, according to the La Verne Police Department. The suspect then returned to the victim’s home around 5:50 a.m. and forced his way inside again. The victim, however, was able to escape and met with officers outside. “Police made contact with the suspect via phone. A gunshot was heard from inside the residence and shortly after, the suspect jumped from a balcony onto the adjacent property holding what appeared to be a handgun, and ran northwest, out of sight,” according to the La Verne Police Department in a written statement. The suspect is not a La Verne resident, police said. A wide perimeter was establish to search for the suspect. The Foothills Special Enforcement Team assisted with a search. K9 units from the West Covina Police Department, Claremont Police Department and the San Bernardino sheriffs department. Police departments from Covina and Pomona also assisted with the search. At 2:30 p.m., the La Verne Police Department announced that the search had ended after officers determined that the suspect escaped the perimeter. During a search of the victim’s residence a stolen firearm believed to be used in the shooting was recovered along with other evidence. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LA VERNE - Suspects were seen on Ring security footage burglarizing a home January 25 and the resident’s quick reaction led to some arrests, police said.
The burglary occurred just before 6 p.m. in the 6900 block of Wheeler Avenue. Two of the suspects were seen removing property. Police arrived and witnessed three men leaving the home. One of the suspects fled officers. Two were detained at gunpoint, according to the La Verne Police Department. A suspect in a waiting white 4-door sedan fled the scene southbound on Wheeler, setting off a police pursuit which was soon cancelled due to excessive speeds, La Verne Police said. A West Covina police canine assisted along with a Los Angeles county sheriffs helicopter to search for the suspect who fled on foot from the home. Unfortunately, the suspect was not located. Jaylen Lacy, 19, from Los Angeles, was booked on suspicion of burglary. He was held in lieu of $50,000 bail. The second suspect, a 17-year-old, was also booked on suspicion of burglary and was held at Central Juvenile Hall in Los Angeles. All the stolen property was recovered and returned to the victim, La Verne Police said. |
