Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor LOS ANGELES - An accused rapist was identified Wednesday in the hopes that additional victims can come forward and help bring the suspect to justice.
Eduardo Sarabia, 40, was officially charged with one count of forcible rape, one count of oral copulation by force or injury, and two counts of special allegations of sex crimes with aggravated circumstances, according to Los Angeles County Superior Court data. Investigators believe sex crimes with female victims occurred on May 12 and May 13 between 9:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. A deputy patrolling Highway 39 at mile marker 21 above Azusa and Glendora came upon the van May 13. The deputy called for assistance after hearing a woman screaming inside of the van, which was parked on a turnout along the winding mountain road. A suspect, whom investigators identified as Sarabia, emerged and initially complied with the deputy’s commands. At one point, the suspect ran back into the van where the woman was still screaming. The suspect then re-emerged and complied with the deputy’s commands, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department radio traffic. It took between 5 and 10 minutes until backup was able to arrive and help the deputy take the suspect into custody and clear the van of anyone inside. Based on the allegations, investigators believe there may be additional victims. The body will remain in an ambulance for two hours until the arrival of coroner investigators.
UPDATE, 10:40 a.m.: First responders have located a body in the river near Camp Williams RV Resort. They do not know if this is specifically the person spotted floating face down in the river this morning. MOUNTAINS - Los Angeles County Firefighters and Sheriff’s deputies are searching for a report of two bodies seen floating down the San Gabriel River. The rescue operation is unfolding at Camp Williams RV Resort, 24210 E. Fork Rd. Hikers reported initially seeing what appeared to be a person wearing a red jacket floating down the river, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department radio traffic. Firefighters were told once they arrived to Camp Williams that there are possibly two bodies floating down the river. A Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter and a rescue team aboard a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s helicopter are all en route for reconnaissance and possible body recovery. UPDATE, 9:40 a.m.: A woman was extracted from the burning vehicle that ignited the Oakwide Fire burning along Angeles Crest Highway. It is unclear if any other occupants were in the vehicle. MOUNTAINS - An estimated 1-acre brushfire is currently burning deep in the mountains above La Cañada Flintridge after a reported vehicle crash. The vehicle crashed along Angeles Crest Highway near mile marker 30.15. The US Forest Service has responded, along with Los Angeles County Fire Department which is sending a full brushfire response including the Canadian-built Super Scoopers. Flooding caused by excessive rainfall May likely affect the foothills of the San Gabriel Valley into the eastern mountains of the San Gabriel Valley, according to the NWS. “Heavy rainfall could trigger shallow debris flows in and near the Bobcat, Ranch, and Fish burn scars. Roadway flooding is expected including Highway 210, as well as rises in small streams and normally dry arroyos is expected,” the NWS said in a written statement. Baldy Village Sunday morning.
The aircraft crash was reported around 8 a.m. along Mount Baldy Road near Barrett Stoddard Road according to the California Highway Patrol. There was one person inside the helicopter when it crashed. The pilot was driven to Mount Baldy Village and was transferred to a ground ambulance to be taken to the hospital, according to US Forest Service radio traffic. The Bell helicopter is registered to Air Methods Corporation in Greenwood Village, Colorado and is part of an air medical transport fleet for Mercy Air. Firefighters from the US Forest Service, Los Angeles County Fire Department and San Bernardino County responded to the scene. Northbound lanes of Mt. Baldy Road at Shinn Road remain closed by the CHP. Los Angeles County fire fighters and the California Highway Patrol were called to Highway 39 south of East Fork Road around 10:16 a.m. July 28. Few details are available at the time this post was launched. It is unclear how many bicyclists or vehicles were involved, according to Officer Kendricks of the California Highway Patrol. Firefighters arrived on scene and met with someone who was performing CPR on an injured person, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. Northbound and southbound lanes of Highway 39 between rocks Springs Way in Azusa to East Fork Road are closed for at least three more hours for an investigation, the CHP said. Aerial footage from a broadcast news helicopter showed three crew members walking into Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center after being taken by a Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter. Aboard the copter were two pilots, three medics and a doctor from UCLA. MOUNTAINS - A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s helicopter crashed in the San Gabriel Mountains injuring the crew aboard Saturday afternoon. The crashed helicopter still poses a fire risk and firefighters have asked all other personnel near the copter to get back, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s radio traffic. The helicopter crashed near Highway 39 and East Fork Road. All five crew members were extricated from the crashed helicopter. There was one critical patient, Two with moderate injuries and two with minor injuries, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Baldy Road Thursday night.
The body was found along Mt. Baldy road at mile marker 2.18. A hiker reportedly discovered the body inside a black vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol. Los Angeles County Firefighters were called around 7 p.m. A firefighter called the man’s time of death at 7:23 p.m., according to the California Highway Patrol. It is unclear how long the crash occurred before being discovered. A technician with the US Forest Service reports three to five acres running slowly uphill.
