LOS ANGELES - An exam awaits six days after a 23-year-old woman was found dead in a vehicle parked on a Rowland Heights street December 28. Desteny Curtis was identified by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Social media posts claim Curtis went missing and was last seen in Hacienda Heights/Rowland Heights area Christmas Day. Curtis was found after first responders were called to a report of a person not breathing in the 18400 block of Santar Street, according to Sgt. Davis of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. Firefighters received the call around 8:42 p.m. Curtis was officially pronounced dead at 8:45 p.m., according to coroner Public Information Officer Sarah Ardalani. ROWLAND HEIGHTS - One person died Monday evening in a vehicle on the eastbound 60 freeway west of Fullerton Road. First responders located a red Dodge minivan in the center divider just after 7:30 p.m. January 2. Los Angeles County firefighters had to remove the person from the Dodge minivan to perform CPR, but the person died at the scene, according to California Highway Patrol traffic logs. First Responders were told a possible seizure led to the death. It is unclear if the person who died was a passenger, or was a driver. It is also unclear if the minivan crashed into the center divider or merely had stopped. As of 8:50 p.m., the HOV, No. 1 and 2 lanes were blocked as first responders waited for investigators from the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. The body of an adult female was found after first responders were called to a report of a person not breathing in the 18400 block of Santar Street, Wednesday, December 28, according to Sgt. Davis of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Diamond Bar/Walnut Station. First responders were called to the scene around 8:42 p.m. The woman was reportedly found inside a vehicle. Identification for the woman is pending. She was only described as a female in her 20s, according to Public Information Officer Sarah Ardalani of the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. Deputies at the scene preliminarily stated that the victim, a man, was shot in the chest. The shooting reportedly occurred in the area of Fullerton Road and Palacios Drive, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s crime broadcast. Deputies and firefighters are still at the gas station, 19004 Colima Rd. The victim was transported to a trauma center. His condition was not publicly available. An SGV CityWatch reader who was at the gas station believes that the victim was a passenger in the vehicle. Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor ROWLAND HEIGHTS – Three vehicles burned and caused minor damage to an apartment building early Wednesday morning, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.
The fire burned in the 2000 block of Batson Avenue. Firefighters were dispatched at 4:48 a.m. After the fire was knocked down, building and safety inspectors from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works were called to examine the apartment. Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies aided in evacuating residents from the apartment complex. There were no injuries reported and residents have been allowed back, according to Sgt. Estrada of the Sheriff’s Walnut/Diamond Bar Station. Estrada did not immediately know if some or all of the building’s residents were allowed back. The cause is under investigation. Two people were heading east on the 60 freeway near Fairway Avenue when one of two males in a blue or purple Dodge sedan fired at least three gunshots, according to the California Highway Patrol in a written statement. The shooting occurred around 12:45 a.m. The wounded man and one other occupant exited onto Lemon Avenue and entered a strip mall at 20627 Golden Springs Dr. Initially, the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center told SGV CityWatch in an interview just before 7 a.m. that no gunshot victims had yet been found, but a caller said her husband had been shot on the freeway. However, a log of Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatches indicated firefighters responded to a medical emergency call at Lemon and Golden Springs at 12:52 a.m. in Diamond Bar. It is not publicly clear if the California Highway Patrol was told much later of a victim connected to the freeway shooting. The victim was taken to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center, the CHP said. At 6:46 a.m., the CHP shut down all eastbound lanes of the 60 freeway at Nogales Street, including the Nogales on ramp for an investigation. ROWLAND HEIGHTS - Homicide detectives are investigating the shooting death of a man found early Sunday in Rowland Heights. The shooting took place in the area of Colima Road and Fullerton Rd., April 11. First responders were dispatched around 2:39 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Information Bureau. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Few details are available at this hour. Firefighters were dispatched to a report of an unconscious person at that location. Units did not clear the scene until 3:24 a.m., according to Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. About 45 percent of the strip mall burned at 1725 S. Nogales St. The fire was dispatched at 10:06 p.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. A Korean barbecue restaurant, Thirsty Cow, apparently was greatly affected by the fire.
It took firefighters just under three hours to knockdown the fire. 10 businesses were saved No injuries were reported. Firefighters remained on scene into the early morning Tuesday for “mop up” operations. The fire’s cause is under investigation. The vehicle crashed into the side of a home in the 2900 block of Blakeman Avenue around 4:43 a.m. April 18, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. Two males inside the vehicle were witnessed fleeing the crash scene on foot, according to Lt. Avila of the Los Angeles County Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Station. Firefighters have an urban search and rescue apparatus on scene. The vehicle crashed through the kitchen of the home. No occupants inside the home have been injured, according to the California Highway Patrol. The males who fled the vehicle were reportedly wearing light colored sweatshirts and light colored pants, the CHP was told. |
