Written by AARON CASTREJON CityWatch Editor POMONA - A jury deliberated for less than two hours before finding a gunman guilty December 5 in the killing of an 8-year-old boy last year. Houl was in a vehicle when he opened fire at a home in the 1100 block of West 11thStreet in Pomona February 20, 2017. Jonah Hwang, 8, was inside the home when he was hit by gunfire.
The home was occupied by a family. Hwang was visiting his friends when the shooting occurred. He was the only one struck by gunfire. Hwang later died of his injuries. Houl also shot at the same home before the murder in January, 2017 and then again twice after the murder on March 7 and 25. Surveillance footage from police cameras and a residential security camera showed a similar Toyota Tundra pickup seen driving in the area during the drive-by shootings. Investigators tracked down the truck due to distinct damage on the truck body and led to a Mira Loma trucking company where Houl worked as a contract employee, investigators said. The same truck was reportedly found at the company. Sentencing is scheduled for January 29, 2019 and Houl faces life in prison without parole.
